Matthew 5
Hey Guys and Gals!
Sorry this is coming out so late to you, but I hope you all have had a great week so far. I wanted to start out with a few announcements before I talk about Matthew 5.
Fall Family Festival is TONIGHT!! The festivities start around 6 and there will be plenty of games and food for you to enjoy. If you are able to come, you should help Matt sell some pizza pie tonight!
If you were not at REVERB on Wednesday, we started a new series called "When the Darkness Falls." Mitch kicked the series out by talking about Depression, what it is and what it is not and how even some of the strongest men in the bible struggled with depression. We will continue the next few weeks talking about cutting and suicide. I strongly encourage you to attend if you haven't and remember that if any of you are struggling with these things: Myself, Bill, Letty, Matt and any of the sponsors are here for you and will help you through this.
Lastly, we will be meeting This Sunday at 5:00 at the CHURCH! This is a change from what we first discussed last Sunday, but Bill and I thought it would be better for the discussion if we were here and didn't have to rush through the discussion, since Matthew 5 had a lot of good stuff in it.
I wanted to leave with an excerpt from Thomas Merton, a trappist monk, about what it means to love your enemy. I'll try to have the entire chapter for you on Sunday. It is from his book "New seeds of Contemplation"
Do not think that you can show your love for Christ by hating those who seem to be his enemy on earth. Suppose they really do hate Him: Nevertheless He loves them, and you cannot be united with Him unless you love them too. If you hate the enemies of the church instead of loving them, you too will run the risk of becoming an enemy of the Church, and of Christ, for He said: "Love your enemies," and He also said: "He that is not with me is against me." Therefore if you do not side with Christ by loving those He loves, you are against him.
See you all on Sunday!

Questions for this week
Here are the questions for this week's small group:
1. Are regretting and repenting the same thing? Explain.
2. How was John the Baptist, about whom we read in the New Testament, the last of the Old Testament prophets?
3. What was the purpose of John's baptism?
4. Why was Jesus baptized?
5. Why was Jesus tempted?
6. How was Jesus temptation like ours?
7. What can we learn about temptation from Jesus experience?
8. Why did Jesus perform miracles of healing?
9. Why did Jesus choose so many fishermen to be His disciples?
10. How can we show and tell people that Jesus is the Son of God and the King?
Those are the questions. Don't forget we start at 6 and DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR BIBLES!! Thank you.
